Buy A Cow – Rebuild the Herd

BCP Strata proudly supports the Buy A Bale initiative, which helps bring hay bales to the farmers and their herd. With the recent water inundation, farmers in NW Queensland are facing a new level of devastation,  and Buy A Bale has launched a new sister initiative called Buy A Cow to help them out.

Below is an introduction to this initiative, and how you can help:

The devastation inflicted upon North Queensland cattle farmers is massive. You have probably seen the images on TV and on social media. Over 500,000 cattle have perished. Our sister program Buy a Bale is delivering fodder to these affected farmers.

We have been inundated with questions “can we do something more than hay”. Could we help them buy cattle we were asked. Well we’ve listened and we have decided to create a fundraising campaign called Buy a Cow, similar to our successful Buy a Bale campaign.

It’s really simple and very targeted. We’re aiming to raise $15,000 per farmer. The cost of stock loses and property damage is estimated at over $500 million and the knock on effects to the local communities will be even more. Replacement cattle could cost up to $1000 a head but just like Buy a Bale’s small $20 and $50 amounts adding up to whole truck loads of hay, with your help we’re confident we can reach our target.

It will take many up to 2 years to generate an income. Many have lost core breeders that can take years to re establish blood lines. Many of these cattle producers supply meat to tables all over Australia and create jobs across our economy.

The funds will be used to help them purchase cattle or transport cattle they have purchased to their properties. The farmers affected will do all the searching for the right cattle, that’s not our job. Our job is to help them get started in the rebuilding phase. $15,000 is just a small amount compared to what they will have to spend themselves to get back to their pre flood position. It’s a small way we can show we can help.

So here’s our challenge, lets grab our donation barrels ( order one if you’d like one) , share the donation page ( www.buyacow.com.au ) get your school to hold a gold coin day for Buy a Cow, get your work team together and Buy a Cow and name it when you donate or just give online at www.buyacow.com.au

Since we launched the campaign last Friday February 22nd, we’ve raised $18,782 so that’s one farmer supported, more to come. (edited to add, as of 27/02/19, nearly $40,000 has been raised!).

Across Australia farmers are doing it tough in so many ways, drought, flood and fire. Your help is allowing Rural Aid to do its work in supporting these wonderful Australians.

Thank You Australia, your farmers and their communities appreciate your support.
